TrendsTalk 2012 Wrap-up

TrendsTalk 2012 was a success!

The 'unconference' ran from 11:30 in the morning until 5:00 that night! We had a great turn out of Kingston's community attending. From the snack bar, to the lecture hall the event was held in, everything was set up perfectly thanks to the team of TrendsTalk 2012 and Lindsey Fair, a St. Lawrence College part-time professor, who took on the liberty of being in charge of the event last year. A professor who has managed to take on teaching, working, and even helping out the students of the Advertising and Marketing Communications program in extra curricular activities including TrendsTalk and Pivot Con.

The Digital Concierge team did a fabulous job in digitally promoting the event in real-time using Twitter - #trendstalk (Hailey Murphy, Riley Cavanagh, Sabrina Eshoo) as well as taking photos (Sabrina Eshoo), and shooting video (James Potts and Michael Kusters).

So who came to event?

Leading up to the event, the TrendsTalk marcom team (Camille Orellano, Jennifer Orsatti, and Nick Rayner) made sure the event was marketed effectively to the Kingston business community. Just days before the event, there was news that the Kingston Police were going to attend the 'unconference' for Digital enlightenment, as well as Small Business owners and Entrepreneurs.

What about the Panel?

Towards the end of the day, a panel of speakers had been put together, which included Alumni from the Advertising and Marketing Communications Management program, as well as current students. This panel enabled attendees to ask questions, be engaged, and make sure any questions they had were answered. A special thanks goes out to all of the members of the Panel:
Matt Landers
Kelsy Lewitt
Adam Smith
Derek Wilson
Sabrina Eshoo

And for the presenters?

A special thanks goes out to all of the presenters who dedicated much of their time the past couple of months in developing an effective, powerful presentation for TrendsTalk. These individuals include:
Samantha Tomsett

Thank you everyone for a great TrendsTalk 2012! Stay tuned for photos and videos from TrendsTalk.

TrendsTalk 2012- Description of Sessions!

Nick Rayner and Camille Orellano will present a session titled Creating Catchy Content. The theme of the presentation will be content marketing and how it can be useful to brands, small businesses, individuals, and anyone looking to own their market by engaging their customers by creating media that positions them as thought leaders in their fields. The world of online marketing is growing fast, and it is important for people to start carving out their corners and owning them to the best of their abilities; content marketing is a cheap, fun, innovative, and open-ended way of building a community. Anybody can do it, and this session will contain discussions about what people are looking for, and tips on how to start immediately building a new type of audience.

Hailey Murphy and Riley Cavanagh will be presenting a session on Social Gets Nasty- Secrets on how to handle negative comments about your brand. They will do a quick overview on why it is important to manage negative comments on social media and the impact it can have on your brand and how consumers perceive your brand. They will touch on the importance of customer service and prime locations to look into when tracking negative comments and feedback of your brand/ business, such as platforms like Twitter. The most important portion of their session will be how to fix and react to negative comments. They will also be presenting great examples of case studies and how other brands deal with negative feedback from consumers and how they turn a negative experience into a positive one.

Rebecca Bax and Amber Giles will be doing their session on The Value of a Like- on Facebook! They will start off by describing social media and Facebook as a focus and its value and benefit to a business. They will describe what a ‘like’ is; what it means, and the real value of a ‘like’. There will be a comparison made between a ‘like’ and a fanpage on Facebook- further details will be presented on how to navigate Facebook and how it works. They will then get into the meat of the presentation: what Facebook and the value of a ‘like’ means to YOU and how it can improve your brand.

Jenny Orsatti and Trevor Nugent will be doing a session on Social Media ROI (Return on Investment). They will start the presentation with having the audience ponder what they want to get out of their social media platforms for their businesses, or even personal brands. The session will focus acutely on showing the audience a different kind of return on investment from social media that you should be more open to receiving and how to set realistic goals for your brand. They will do a comparison between Taylored  Training Fitness Centre and Goodlife Fitness, comparing their Facebook pages, posts, and negative feedback.

More descriptions to come for the other sessions! Stay tuned!
